Headaches. | Very important!!! Prozac in a dose that is too high for you can actually cause depression and thoughts of self-harm and suicide. I've never been depressed but I have suffered from anxiety, panic, and OCD all my life. I started out at 10 mg prozac after trying Lexapro, Zoloft, generic Zoloft, and Paxil. Even 10 mgs of prozac was way too high. All the meds I mentioned caused me to feel very depressed, despondent, hopeless, no energy, suicidal, wanted to hurt myself. Prozac does this the least, but it does still happen if I take too much. I am now on the liquid Prozac so I can take very tiny doses. I take about 1.5 mgs per day and that works very well on the panic and anxiety and doesn't cause depression. PROZAC (FLUOXETINE HYDROCHLORIDE): Fluoxetine is used to treat depression, panic attacks, obsessive compulsive disorder, a certain eating disorder (bulimia), and a severe form of premenstrual syndrome (premenstrual dysphoric disorder). This medication may improve your mood, sleep, appetite, and energy level and may help restore your interest in daily living. It may decrease fear, anxiety, unwanted thoughts, and the number of panic attacks. It may also reduce the urge to perform repeated tasks (compulsions such as hand-washing, counting, and checking) that interfere with daily living. Fluoxetine may lessen premenstrual symptoms such as irritability, increased appetite, and depression. It may decrease binging and purging behaviors in bulimia.
