CYMBALTA  (DULOXETINE):  Duloxetine is used to treat depression and anxiety. In addition, duloxetine is used to help relieve nerve pain (peripheral neuropathy) in people with diabetes or ongoing pain due to medical conditions such as arthritis, chronic back pain, or fibromyalgia (a condition that causes widespread pain). Duloxetine may improve your mood, sleep, appetite, and energy level, and decrease nervousness. It can also decrease pain due to certain medical conditions. Duloxetine is known as a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI). This medication works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances (serotonin and norepinephrine) in the brain.   FDA Approval Date: 2004-08-03 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

1  Fibromyalgia, nerve pain Started @30mg/a day; increased to 30mg 2xs/a day after 1 month. Experienced complete pain free for 3 WEEKS; then no help at all. Doubled to 60mg 2xs/a day. Horrible experience. Started detoxing 30mg as tolerated/every month. Took 6mos to be totally off med. Then 12wks for normal functioning of brain-per my judgment. SCARIEST DRUG EVER!! This is a VERY DANGEROUS medication. I had emotional blunting while still in pain. VERY hard to get off it. Were those 3wks-pain free a 'false uphoria'? Would NOT RECOMMEND!!! F 71 1 years

1  Fibromyalgia Depression, anxiety, digestion, liver issues It worked for a little while and then when it stopped working at the max dose, it was IMPOSSIBLE to get off of it safely. This drug has been sued for overstating the benefits and understating the risks. The brain zaps are debilitating. You can not function if you miss a dose. F 37 19 years

5  Fibromyalgia Extreme sleepiness and dry mouth/eyes with dizziness the first several weeks until I adjusted. Fibromyalgia symptoms are much less frequent and nerve pain decreased dramatically after the first day. My depression symptoms are also greatly diminished. However, I have developed RLS that's driving me crazy! F 48 18 months

1  Nerve pain in leg NEVER EVER again. This will b put on my list of toxic meds. First day afterward just nauseous & felt bad, 2nd day could barely get out of bed I was so nauseated & stomach hurting. This is day 5 (last dose 3 days ago) & extreme fatigue & zero appetite. Do not ever use this drug. It did help with nerve pain but I cannot live like this. Do not ever take this drug! F 69 2 days

5  Body pain, mild depression Fatigue at first that went away, but I was on 40 and quickly went back down to 20mg. years later thought I might get RLS from it, but not sure, I am on other medications. This medication made both my depression and body pain disappear. I have extreme arthritis and some neuropathy, and it is 75% gone to 95% on most days. I thought I don't need this small dose, and went off it, but my body pain returned so much, and depression, it was scary how much. I realize this really made a difference for me. 64 2.5 years

1  Chronic back pain anxiety ptsd Fully dilated pupils, dizziness, anxiety with a low pulse rate, unwanted sexualising feelings, suicidal thoughts. The side effects began 4 hours after taking dose and felt like was on an unwanted high that made me not feel right in the head. Need someone with you, I was lucky I had my mother with me as I just got out of hospital with severe pain. The side effects were too intense and too much to handle. Will not take this again.  1  anxiety and fibromyalgia weight gain, constipation, sexual dysfunction, excessive sweating, dizziness, lethargy, migraines Don't start this drug if you're not planning on taking C for the rest of your life. It's impossible to quit, the withdrawal symptoms are worst than H*ll. I was told it was safe to quit cold turkey and the withdrawal would last less than 2 weeks. Biggest lie ever, I'm 7 weeks off AD and I haven't improved in the slightest: daily bouts of diarrhea, debiliating nausea and dizziness. F 27 3 years

1  Fibromyalgia I experienced cramps all over my body and tremors in my hands. A neurologist told me that I needed to stop taking duloxetine. My doctor weaned me off of it. I haven't taken it for a month and the tremors in my hands are still there. F 68 2 years

1  MDD & GAD - new onset of EXTREME restless leg syndrome (like my body starts flailing around uncontrollably) - anger, irritability - aching legs - chills - unable to sleep or even relax at all due to RLS (which I didn't even know was a thing until I got it from duloxetine) Wondering now if I am doomed to have RLS for life?? This sucks. Didn't help my depression and I still have the RLS 1.5 weeks after quitting duloxetine. F 40 3 weeks

1  Anxiety & Depression This medication causes horrible withdrawals, understated in the pamphlet that comes with the medication. While I was on the medication, I noticed little to no symptom relief and many GI side effects and well as sexual and emotional side effects. When I missed a dose, I would become acutely suicidal and emotionally dysregulated to the point I once got a noise complaint/was reported for my incessant sobbing. When I couldn't tolerate the medication's GI, emotional, or sexual side effects, I came off it. I tapered correctly but I was constantly sick (nauseated), dizzy, faint, experiencing blurry vision, overwhelmingly/dramatically depressed and suicidal (not typical symptoms of my depression) for MONTHS. I almost got fired from my job because I was so sick all the time on this drug and for several months after. Look up Cymbalta class action lawsuit before starting use of this drug. Pass this information along to your prescriber. Negative side effects are grossly understated. F 20 6 months

3  Depression Left eye stays dilated (Anisocoria), blurry vision, difficultly reading close at 30 mg dose. Less problematic at 15 mg (half doses) while still some benefits. (I have light body weight.) Typical sexual side effects 4 hours after taking. I loved the tingling and tickling feelings and numbness that relieves pain. Relief from depression started at twice the duration after sexual side effects (only 8 hours) but mood benefits increased after a few days of consistent use. M 40 7 days

5  Fibromyalgia At first I felt some shocks in my nerves. That went away and I have no further side effects. PSA!!! This needs to be evaluated for chronic back pain. I've had debilitating back pain and nerve pain down my legs for 8 years. It was disabling. After increasing my does to 60 mg I've gotten my life back and my pain is virtually gone! I rarely have pain, and if I do it's limited to a local spot on my back and is completely tolerable. I hope it can help other people suffering from this. F 40 3 years

1  Low Back Pain Extreme dizziness, sweating, tremors, teeth chattering, general malaise. I only took ONE PILL at bedtime, and woke up with horrible symptoms that checked off at least half the list for serotonin syndrome. Doctor tried to tell me Cymbalta cannot cause serotonin syndrome. I said it's right in the list of side effects FROM THE MANUFACTURER. Doctors do NOT know everything! M 65 1 days

1  Rheumatoid Arthritis I was prescribed Cymbalta (Dytrex equivalent) a couple of years ago for my Rheumatoid Arthritis ( in conjunction with another medication for my RA). My Doctor said that Cymbalta is a very safe drug with very little side-effects; he didn't mention anything about the withdrawal side-effects (I'm not sure if he really even knew the full extent of the withdrawal symptoms). Now, in 2022, my Arthritis is under control so I am happy to gradually wean off the Cymbalta. A couple of weeks into weaning off this medication, I was already going through hell, and I haven't even taken it for a long period like some of the poor people who have commented in the last few years. I suffered from constant diarrhoea, nausea, dizziness, brain-zaps, sleeping problems. A few months further on into weaning off the Cymbalta, things were starting to get worse - I was getting constant ‘Hyperhidrosis' (severe sweating of the heels, palms, underarms) - to the point that I was losing a lot of electrolytes in my body, and went to Emergency because I didn't know what was wrong with me and why I wasn't feeling better (I also had a viral cold at the same time, to complicate things more); I also realised that I was getting serious ‘Anxiety attacks'. As a normal thing, I just get a ‘little' bit of anxiety F 37 3 years
