INTROVALE  (ETHINYL ESTRADIOL; LEVONORGESTREL):  This combination hormone medication is used to prevent pregnancy. It contains 2 hormones: a progestin (levonorgestrel) and an estrogen (ethinyl estradiol). It works mainly by preventing the release of an egg (ovulation) during your menstrual cycle. It also makes vaginal fluid thicker to help prevent sperm from reaching an egg (fertilization) and changes the lining of the uterus (womb) to prevent attachment of a fertilized egg. If a fertilized egg does not attach to the uterus, it passes out of the body. Besides preventing pregnancy, birth control pills may make your periods more regular, decrease blood loss and painful periods, decrease your risk of ovarian cysts, and also treat acne. Using this medication does not protect you or your partner against sexually transmitted diseases (such as HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia).   FDA Approval Date: 2010-09-27 (Sources: U.S. Centers for Medicare Services, FDA)

5  endometriosis I had no side effects I loved this birth control. It really helped with my period pain and regularity, and I'm so sad it was discontinued (at least in my area). I was really surprised reading all of these negative comments because I had such a great experience. I guess it'll affect everyone differently. F 20 1 years

3  Hormonal acne caused by periods Pros : -My skin is getting a lot better -Very few breakouts -Never have my period Cons: -I have gained at least 10-15 lbs. -I am hungry frequently but before this I did not get cravings -I get minor cramps/bloating a few times a month -Increase in vaginal discharge -Very tender breasts that feel heavy/bloated I was put on this birth control after expressing my concerns to my doctor regarding my acne. Up until a year ago, I had almost perfect skin. Suddenly my acne flared up to a point of no return. Long story short, I got off of nexplanon (which was causing me to have my period every week) and I went about 5months without any birth control because I wanted my body to have a break from hormones. My acne did not get better. SO. Now I am on introvale. Overall, I think the product has been helping me control my acne because you only get your period every 3 months. However, I am considering switching to a different birth control after my 91 days are up because the side effects are quite annoying. F 21 75 days

1  birth control Horrible! Started bleeding second week of the pill. I finished 30 and have switched to another form of birth control and I still have not stopped bleeding. Not light liner bleeding but full first two days of starting your cycle ever bleeding. Wish I would have found this website before I started taking this pill! Don't. F 35 30 days

1  Endometriosis I just finished my second month of Introvale. My doctor put me on it because I have extremely painful periods and Introvale could make it to where I only have them every 3 months. He warned me I might have some slight spotting. Well, about a week and a half ago I had some slight spotting. But now it's progressed to where the bleeding is just as heavy as a period but unlike a period, it's not getting lighter or showing any signs of stopping. I've been bleeding like it's the 1st day of my period for nearly a week, and I have extremely bad cramping like I would the first few days of my period. I'm in so much pain I can't eat and when I do I throw up. I had to call into work 2 days. I have an appointment with my doctor to discuss a different option. F 21 2 months
