| 1 | Anxiety/Stress | For anyone out there trying to seek an escape from life's problems, please don't take this. You'll ruin you're life. Not only will you grow a literally deadly dependence of this drug(whether you think you will or not) but it will almost completely erase your memory from the previous night/day. If you take this with alcohol then you will most definitely regret this as it is not like any other medication with alcohol. This will completely floor you and you WILL do something that risks your life or others. Xanax is helpful IF you actually have severe stress/anxiety problems. I know someone out there reading this doesn't fit that criteria and wants a good high. This isn't a good high. In the long run it has been proven that Xanax intensifies all psychiatric problems and makes them far worse. They often induce a permanent treatment resistant depression after only a few months use. This is due to the fact that they enlarge the ventricles in the brain and cause structural brain damage. There are no long term benefits of this drug. It works at the start but the price you pay is years of torturous withdrawal and permanent brain damage. People here claiming to have been on it for years without increasing the dosage and that they haven't built any tolerance are full of sh*t. They liklely lack insight into the cognitive and emotional damage the drug has inflicted on them. I am very skeptical that any long term high dose users of Xanax on here are employed or functioning members of society. Even if they can function to the bare minimum, they are severely limiting their true potential due to the proven brain damage this drug causes. You don't need to look any further than Wikipedia to find out the Benzo's cause permanent brain damage. And stop advocating this drug on here. All competent doctors agree its highly dangerous. If your deluded enough to think it works for you then go ahead and write a review. But don't write reviews recommending others to poison themselves. And stop kidding yourself people. You cannot blanket say that ALL benzos are terrible for EVERY body. So that out of the way, I have to say that I am very careful with my meds but xanax has been wonderful for my sleep problems. I use it rarely when I wake up in the middle of the night. I also use Ambien for the same. I prefer to do other things, try 5HTP, GABA, meletonin, chamomile tea etc. But sleep is sooo important to our overall health that I will use these meds when I need to. It is increasingly important that our alternative practitioners continue to do neurotransmission testing to find out which anti-depresanats, SSRI and other work best with an individual's body chemistry. Epi-genetics is the future. | Too bad it has such a variety of neg. effects for so many. I've tried Klonopin which gave me nightmarish side effects, Lexapro which made me gain 30 lbs and that gave me more anxiety and borderline depression, Effexor which made my BP go up so high I was hospitalized for 4 days (high bp runs in the family, and Buspar which didn't even touch my anxiety.
